The summit is modeled after the very successful Tutor/Mentor conference sponsored by the Tutor/Mentor Connection that takes place in Chicago twice a year. The object of the summit is to strengthen and inform the Indianapolis community of the availability and quality of tutoring/mentoring programs in the area. We will be sharing concepts to enhance tutoring and mentoring programs by networking with all stakeholders. We have planned workshops, a lunch networking opportunity, and a keynote speaker.
Our target audience for attending the conference includes current tutor and mentor volunteers, youth serving program professional, potential donors, Corporate leaders, parents, educators, and community political and faith base leaders.Anyone interested in the education of our young people in Indianapolis
This year’s summit is a follow-up from the “Expo’s Educational Conference” and a “Call to Action” for all of the stakeholders interested in investing in the education of our youth in Indianapolis. With the talk of the takeover of seven of the Indianapolis Public schools by the State, the request of the Mayor to add these schools as charter schools, it is time for the citizens of our neighborhoods, business’, churches and educational leadership to take a stand. Tutoring and Mentoring has become an essential component in the enhancement of the academic success of many middle and high school students of this generation. The access and knowledge of where these tutoring and mentoring programs exist in our communities is elusive at best. How can you get involved? By partnering (become a volunteer in one of the youth serving organizations in/or around your neighborhood), by contributing (by making a donation/or by sending volunteers from your company) and by supporting a young person’s participation in a program in your neighborhood. The summit is about: The recruitment of volunteers for the youth serving agencies who are promoting tutoring and mentoring program; the networking of all stakeholders interested in the education and enhance of the academic success of our youth in Indianapolis, and the celebration, promotion and spotlighting of various programs activities. We can make a difference in the academic success of our young people. We may have to do it one person at a time, one neighborhood at a time, but we have to get to work and do it.
With education, opportunity and persistence...anything is possible.
